Two live bands slated for October 15 event

Columbus, OH — October 11, 2010 — A Columbus resident has taken up the cause of Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito, who were convicted of murder in Italy last December. Heather Coy is sure they are innocent, and she has organized a fund-raiser to help them. The event is slated for 9 pm Friday, October 15, at the Rumba Cafe, located at 2507 Summit St. in Columbus. Two bands, Ma Rainy and The Resisters, will provide live entertainment.

"I got involved in this case through Facebook" says Coy. "I don't know Amanda or her family. But I have studied the facts carefully, and it is obvious she and Raffaele are innocent. Facebook put me in touch with a network of people who are working to raise public awareness of this injustice."

A number of Internet sites have emerged to discuss the case and keep supporters up-to-date. They include:

-       The Members' Forum at http://www.injusticeinperugiaforum.org/

-       United for Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito on Facebook, at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=wall&ref=mf&gid=195005037431

-       The Free Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito cause on Facebook, at http://www.causes.com/causes/506038?m=01d805fc

"I can relate to Amanda because she went to Europe to immerse herself in a different culture," says Coy. "I did the same thing when I was her age."

Coy believes Knox and her then-boyfriend Sollecito stumbled across a murder scene and found themselves in a situation that quickly became surreal.

"The authorities made a high-profile public accusation before they studied the evidence," Coy explains. "Now they are desperate to save face."

Everyone is invited to attend this event, make a donation, and learn more about the case. The cover charge will be $6. The Rumba is donating the venue, and the bands are donating their performances. All proceeds will go to the Amanda Defense Fund, set up by Knox's family to offset the huge cost of her ongoing appeal effort.
